Understanding the Material

Before you start washing your sportswear, it’s important to understand the material it’s made from. Materials like cotton, polyester, nylon, and spandex are common in sportswear, and each has its own washing and care requirements.

Pre-Washing Tips
  1. Read the Label: Always read the care label on your activewear before washing. It provides specific instructions for that garment’s material.
  2. Separate Clothes: Sort your clothes by color to avoid color bleeding. It’s also wise to wash heavier garments separately from lighter ones to avoid damage.
  3. Turn Inside Out: Turning your clothes inside out before washing can help protect them from abrasion and pilling.
  4. Remove Stains: Pre-treat any stains before washing. Applying a bit of stain remover can help ensure they come out in the wash.
Washing Activewear
  1. Use the Right Detergent: Use a detergent specifically designed for activewear. These detergents are designed to remove odors and residue without damaging the fabric.
  2. Wash in Cold Water: Most sportswear is best washed in cold water, which can help prevent color fading and minimize shrinkage.
  3. Avoid Fabric Softener: Fabric softener can coat the fibers of your sportswear and reduce their wicking capabilities.
  4. Don't Overload the Machine: Overloading the washing machine can cause clothes to rub against each other, leading to unnecessary wear and tear.
Drying Activewear

Proper drying is just as important as washing when it comes to caring for your activewear.

  1. Air Dry: Whenever possible, let your sportswear air dry. High heat can break down the fibers of your clothes and decrease their lifespan.
  2. Low Heat If Necessary: If you need to use a dryer, choose the lowest heat setting. And remember to remove the clothes promptly to avoid over-drying.
Additional Care Tips
  • Don't Iron: Activewear and sportswear are usually made of materials that don't respond well to high heat. Avoid ironing these clothes as it can damage the fabric.
